ESG

Energy that keeps farmland farming, and a company run with the same care.

ENVELOPS responds to the climate crisis and supports the sustainable development of rural communities through nexus projects in which agrivoltaics, renewable energy, farming and water work as one cycle. Our business is our ESG, and the company is run on the same principles.

Impact

Bring Light, Bring Life.

Light into energy, land into harvests, and the income back to the village. What we change, in three words.

Light

Light: energy made on farmland

We generate electricity on land that stays in farming. We have built 21 sites in Korea and 4 overseas, and carried out projects and feasibility studies in 10 countries.

Land

Land: shade that keeps farming going

We decide how much shade a crop can take before the panels go up. At Bogor in Indonesia, soybean yield rose 106% in the wet season and 17% in the dry season. At Ovalau in Fiji, lettuce rose 54% and taro 14%.

Life

Life: income that stays in the village

We shape projects so that the income from power stays in rural communities. In Korea we formed an alliance with KLES and Haezoom for Solar Income Villages, where residents take part in the power business. Overseas we work with development partners to address rural electricity, water and food as one project.

ESG policy

People's safety comes before schedule and cost.

The principles we keep in four areas: health and safety, environment, social and governance. They apply to every employee and every project, in Korea and overseas.

Health and safety

  • If it is unsafe, we stop. Anyone can halt the work.
  • Our own staff and our contractors' staff are protected to the same standard.
  • We check the risks before going to site and improve once we are back.

Environment

  • We cut greenhouse gases through renewable energy projects and measure the reduction of each one.
  • We assess the effects on farmland, soil, water and ecosystems in advance, and plan the recovery and recycling of modules and batteries at end of life.
  • We record and reduce the energy use and waste of our office.
  • We comply with environmental law and ask our contractors for the same level of environmental management.

Social

  • Under our human rights charter we keep the workplace free of discrimination and harassment, and we hear staff through the labour-management council and grievance handling.
  • We engage residents and farmers throughout every project and give priority to local jobs and shared benefits.
  • We deal fairly with suppliers and raise ESG standards together.

Governance

  • We keep our ethics charter and code of ethics, and tolerate no corruption of any kind.
  • We report ESG progress and key risks to the board every year.
  • We identify and address ESG risks every year, and keep a reporting channel through which anyone can raise a concern.
  • We manage ESG performance as data and report it honestly to our stakeholders.
